Typically, first I read the script and then talk to the director and/or the writer. This gives me their vision and any special background for the play and the characters. Next I research the time period. What would a wise man or Inn keeper have worn at that time? Then I do an outline of my concept. I love to see how the costumes evolve and how close to my concept they are.. Sometimes they turn out very differently.
